How it is calculated
How to read the result
One calving every 12 to 13 months.
Time to review heats and services.
There is a sustained production loss.
Fewer than 85 days open with a conception service usually means the cow conceived before the voluntary waiting period ended. It is not a problem in itself, but it is worth reviewing with your technician.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use it to calculate the herd average?
This calculator works with one cow. The herd average is obtained by adding up the days open of all cows and dividing by the number of cows, which is what IdeasFarm does automatically.
What happens if the cow is still open?
Select “No, she is still open”. Days open are counted up to today, and the interval you see is the shortest possible if she conceived today.
Why does this number matter so much?
Every extra day open delays the next calving and the next lactation. It is the indicator that weighs most on the calving interval.
